This was the home of Francisco José de Oliveira Vianna, one of the greatest names in Brazilian Sociology, who was born in 1883 and died in 1951. In the same year of his death, the then State Representative João Batista de Vasconcelos Torres drafted a bill authorizing the Government to expropriate the property (built in 1911) with all its belongings in order to deploy a museum and a study center there.
In 1979 it was restored and reopened. Its library, specialized in Sociology, History, Politics and Economics, has a collection of 15,000 pieces including furniture, tableware, crystals and paintings, with great attractions to researchers and visitors.
