In the neighborhood of Gragoatá, the Church came from the chapel built in the 18th century, and its cornerstone was launched in 1898. A Te Deum celebration was held there in honor of King João visit to Vila da Praia Grande, and the funeral of José Bonifácio. The parish was created in 1929.
