It is on the top of the island of same name, at the main entrance of Guanabara Bay. Diogo Carvalho Fontoura ordered its construction in the mid-17th century. This colonial church houses at the main altar the image of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem. Next to the church you may find the ruins of Boa Viagem Fort. It was listed by IPHAN in 1938
The visits to Boa Viagem Island are suspended for repair works on the ramps and stairs of the tourist attraction.
